A Halloween Throw Quilt in February!

While organizing my hobby room I came across an unfinished quilt project. Or four.
I thought about getting rid of this one because I'm not really into Halloween but decided it might be fun to have on display for Trick or Treaters. And also because I find fabric to be really expensive and since I bought this I should use it up.
The squares were already cut and sewn into strips but it still needed to be made into a quilt top and machine quilted.
I used leftover fabric to piece the backing so I wouldn't have to purchase more fabric in such a seasonal print.
Now back to work on an unfinished crocheted afghan. In a nice neutral cream colour. Much more my style than orange jackolanterns!

    I'm linking up with:

Postcard Correspondence Party at Fairfield House

Deborah at Fairfield House is having a correspondence party and I've joined.
She has written a great post about the dying art of written correspondence and has set up a McLinky to encourage some good old fashioned postcard writing.

My mother had a nice collection of lovely old postcards that my paternal grandmother in Manchester, England exchanged with her husband who came ahead to settle in Canada. My grandmother and my dad's brother followed a few years later. My dad is now 80 and he was born in Canada when my uncle was 17 so these are pretty old. Here is one of them:
    This one is postmarked 1916:
Some of the postcards my mother inherited from her mother-in-law were for special occasions and were not posted:
We are going to send each other postcards, preferably about ourselves, our town, state (or province in my case), etc. I asked and Deborah said that Canadians are welcome too. When Deborah has received a card from all 50 states, she is going to have a give-away. I've already received an address request from one of the participants.

If you like to hold handwritten notes, join us…it’s going to be fun. One of my dreams is to visit all states, provinces and territories in Canada and the U.S. Getting postcards from many of these places is something I am looking forward to. McLinky is up over at Fairfield House. I hope to get a postcard from you.

Tablescape Thurs. - Let's Have Soup

Today I am joining the gracious Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for Tablescape Thurs.

I am also joining Michael @ Designs by Gollum for Foodie Friday. Be sure to check out both of these lovely ladies to see there creations and a list of all the other participants.

It has been cold and rainy, so I thought a big bowl of steaming hot Cream of Broccoli Soup sounded wonderful for dinner.

I love this Fitz and Floyd tureen and use it every chance I get.

The detail on the whole tureen is just fabulous, but I think the lid is just stunning. Love, love, love it.

Since this is a soup dinner, I've used a checked tablecloth and matching napkins and kept the accessories very casual. The tureen is the star of the show.

Eash placesetting is placed on a rattan placemat that I've had for years.

I've been wanting this pretty ivory handled flatware from Horchow and it finally went on sale for half price, so I just had to have it.

I've had these simple green stems for ages, I don't remember where I got them.

We love tea or coffee for dinner, and I'm using the famous Big Lots cups and saucers.

The soup bowls are the matching Big Lots dishes. I love these. They are a big generous size.

The green cabbage saucer adds some green to the placesetting. It says Portugal S on the back.

I've used a yellow salad plate with pretty fruit and flowers on the pattern. It is Nikko Woodbury.

I love the fruit and trellis design on these pretty white plates. The pattern is International Tableworks Arbor.

As the sun went down I lit the candles in the little white lace tealights. I found these at the grocery store. I think they are so pretty.

The soup was wonderful and I even had some leftovers for lunch.

This is one of my most favorite cream soup recipes. It says Cauliflower, but it does give the broccoli substitute at the bottom of the recipe. We garnished ours with extra cheese, green onion and bacon bits. So good.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I really look forward to your visits. Be sure to check out my sidebar and join in the fun for Table Top Tuesdays. Remember this is not just for tables, but for all out cabinets, counters, bathrooms, bookcases, hutches, shelves and any place that you display your treasures. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Table Top Tuesday - Adding Some White

Welcome to Table Top Tuesday!!! I can hardly wait to see everyone's beautiful vignettes and decorations.

As I have said before, I have a very small home and therefore I don't have that many tables to decorate, so you will probably see all kinds of surfaces from me. I just have to play somewhere. lol

This is the vignette I have had on this table for a while, and I am really ready for a change.

This table sits between two chairs in my living room.

I am really drooling over all the beautiful white rooms that I see in blogland and in all the magazines, so I want to try and bring more white into my home, so I gathered a few white things and changed out this table.

I decided to use one of my lovely white china ladies, so I gave her a little importance by placing her on a bowl that I turned upside down as a pedestal. Makes her look a bit more grand.

Of course a cute white frame with a pic of my granddaughter is always fun for me to look at.

A white cache pot that I found at Goodwill filled with some pretty white flowers from the Dollar Tree adds a big tough of white.

I have been looking for white lamps for a while and couldn't find anything that I liked at a price I wanted to pay, and then yip-skip, as many times as I look in GW there is never anything, and then today I found this. I was so thrilled. Just the right size. I got the barrel shade at Target, so the total cost was $22.00. Not bad!!!!

I replaced the beige throw with a white one I found at Fry's Grocery and added a yellow toned pillow instead of the dark one. I like the look much better. Now to do the rest of the room

Just to keep life real I thought I would show you the mess I have on the dining table. I am shuffling things around and doing some craft projects and so I have everything out of my way and on the dining table. I guess that should be next weeks Table Top Tuesday. lol

Thank you all so much for dropping by and thank you for joining in on the party fun. I can't wait to see what all you do.

Be sure to sign in below to Mr. Linky. I really don't want to miss anything.

THANK YOU & An Announcement

Wow!!!!! How can I thank you all enough for joining the "Cloche Party". There were so many wonderfully decorated cloches. I just drooled my way through all of the marvelous creations and have been inspired beyond belief. Everyone had such beautiful decorations and I can't thank you all enough for making this such a huge success. If you missed any of the participants, then you really missed a lot. You really need to try and visit them all, everything was so outstanding. I had so much fun visiting every one of you and I sincerely THANK YOU.

    Now for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!

Our wonderful Barb @ Grits And Glamour has graciously allowed me to take over the hosting of TABLE TOP TUESDAY. Her business is running at full speed right now so she is a VERY busy lady. In this economy I think that is such encouragement to all of us. So I am so excited to be taking over for her. We will continue with the party every Tuesday.

For those of you that don't know about this party, let me give you a few ideas. This is where we get to play with all of our table tops, vignettes and accessories and show how we display items on our china cabinets, wall shelves, fireplace mantels, coffee tables, bookcases, bathrooms, buffets, kitchen counters and on top of the cabinets. Any place that you can put a display is fair game and so much fun to inspire us all.

This is Barb's kitchen. I love all of her counter displays and look at the wonderful open area between her cabinets. Gorgeous.

This is the gorgeous vignette she has used in the Table Top button and I just love it.

A bookcase that displays dishes and other fun things.

Night stands can always use a little vignett.

We want to see your bathrooms too. They need something pretty on the counter too.

End tables are always fun to arrange a vignette on.

Kitchen counters and all the things we love to display on top of the cabinets too.

So, show us all your wonderful vignetts and all the pretty displays that you have in your home. I know it will inspire us all.

I am so excited to host this wonderful meme. The gracious Barb has agreed to make me a button to use for this fun meme, and I will display that as soon as it is done. I will have Mr. Linky up this Monday evening by 7PM Pacific time. I really look forward to you joining me.
