~~Happy Canada Day~~

Today, July 1st, we celebrate Canada Day. The Americans separated from British rule in 1768, and celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. Canada waited 100 years later, until 1868, to create the "Dominion of Canada". The basis of Canada's celebration is founded on the formation of a new country and the union of provinces.

We will be celebrating with a BBQ with Fireworks. I plan to make this cake to add to the festivities.

Looking forward to checking out fellow bloggers' 4th of July celebrations.

A single bloom

I was inspired by this beaded milk bottle (wine carafe?) with the cute single stem. Since I have trouble passing them up canning jars at yard sales I used this one with the wire and added some glass beads for the 'water'. I figured the fake flower would probably become a soggy fake flower if I used real water. Or the kids would knock it over with one of the many balls that seem to bounce around our bedroom on a regular basis. Just an easy peasy little touch that makes me smile when I see it. Cost: canning jar .25, glass beads free from a friend, fake flower .75 Bowring sale.

Metamorphosis Monday - Playing with Dishes

Today is time for another wonderful Metamorphosis Monday hosted by the lovely Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch. Be sure to check out her fabulous posts and her blog to see what everyone has been up to this past week. I just know you will find tons of inspiration.

I have a small home with large furniture and tons of windows which I love, but alas there is absolutely no room for a China Hutch. Now if you have suddenly become a dishaholic and want to play with your dishes and display them, this poses a problem.

As you can see in this picture, there is NO room for a hutch in the breakfast area. I did put a few plates on the wall around the mirror.

This is a view of the adjoining familyroom, and again not really any walls, but a lot of windows for wonderful light. I put a few plates on the wall space above the windows and between the drapes. A girls got to display her dishes somewhere, right?

This is the entertainment center across from the sofa. This use to have a lot of books and things in it, but now it has some of my dishes, which almost all came from Goodwill. This is my metamorphosis. I rearranged all the dishes and knick-knacks. Now I know that's a pretty small metamorphosis, but it's fun to change things out a bit. Everything was mostly white and some rooster plates. I wanted to add some color.

Ta-DA, now we have a little blue. It gives the room a little more color and I love being able to look at some of my blue and white things for a change.

Doesn't it look different with a little blue. I love seeing something different since we spend most of our time in this area of the house.

I like the blue in this side too. Makes me smile to see some of my great GW treasures.

Since the unit sits next to the entrance into the kitchen area and it's all one open space, I don't think it looks too weird. Maybe should hold books and etc, but I really like it holding my dishes. lol

Be sure to check out the button in the upper right hand corner of my blog for the wonderful Christmas in July party. She's got fabulous giveaways every week. Give her a shout out, she's really a sweetie and you will love her blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Wish we could have a cup of coffee or iced tea and visit. Come again soon.

Chicken Wire Cloche - I've been shopping

When you all participated in the wonderful "Cloche Party" you had so many gorgeous cloches and so many different types of material that they were made out of. I was so fascinated with the wire ones of different types, especially the chicken wire ones. They were all just fabulous. So I've been on a hunt. I did find several online and also directions on how to make the chicken wire ones, but I didn't think I could successfully make one and the prices of the others were way more than I wanted to spend. Then SURPRISE!!! I was shopping at TJMaxx yesterday and look what I found.

A CHICKEN WIRE LANTERN CLOCHE!!! Now this was intended to be used as a lantern, but with the cute little birdie on the top and the fact that it was chicken wire, I just had to take a further look.

The cloche top comes off and you can take the glass hurricane out and then you have the perfect chicken wire cloche, and it was only $16.99. So for all of you out there hunting, run don't walk to the nearest TJMaxx. I am tickled pink with this great find. I can use it as a hurrican lantern and as a decorative cloche. Two for one and you can't beat that.

I've been trying to add to my collection of blue and white and I also found these three goodies. Love the cake plate. I can put my glass cloche on top of this and have another great decorative piece, and I might even really put a cake on it. The little bowl will be a great planter and the candlesticks will be super in a tablescape.

I love the pretty scene on the top of the cakestand. The three of them cost less than $15. I'm trying to be thrifty because I treated myself to something that I've been drooling over for months.

This wonderful Fitz and Floyd soup tureen has been something that I have wanted forever, but at over $300 I really didn't think this was the kind of thing to treat myself to. Then while browsing Ebay, I found a brand new one that was $170 and free shipping. My rational is if I don't buy anything for the next month, then the money kind of evens out, and I really, really like it and want it. So I splurged and it is supposed to arrive today according to the tracking. Now you know you will see a lot of tablescapes using this gorgeous piece. Isn't it just wonderful! (Now I really will try to not shop for the next month, so no tempting me with anything.) lol

Be sure to go by Frills Fluff and Trucks for a fabulous giveaway. A $25 gift card to TJMaxx or Marshalls. Great fun.

Tablescape Thursday - Let's BBQ

Today is Tablescape Thursday hosted by the gracious Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch. She always has the most stunning tablescape to show us and be sure to check out all the other participants. I'm sure you will be inspired.

Today I thought I would do a table for a BBQ. Some yummy BBQ'd Chicken is on the menu, so I thought I would play off of that.

These are 3 of my roosters in my collection. I really love the white ones, and they're all so different. Paired with sunflowers, ivy, an old kitchen scale and a little birdhouse, this started to bring the outdoors in. Since the temperature is between 107 and 110, eating outside is a little out of the question.

A yellow and white check tablecloth and black vinyl placemats continue the outdoor theme.

I placed the rooster finale on one of my cabbage bowls turned upside down. It fit perfectly and gave it some height. The small one I placed on the kitchen scale.

The little birdhouse tucked in next to the sunflowers and a little ivy tie the arrangement together. I used several of the small bowls from the Big Lots dish set to hold small candles.

My big fat rooster always makes me think he has his head back and he's roaring laughing. It makes me smile every time I look at him.

The rooster final I found at Ross. Love it. The little birdhouse is from Dollar Tree.

Another look at the entire centerpiece and table.

I just love the little rooster napkin rings that I found on Ebay. $8.50 for 8 of them. Not a bad price and they're really heavy. I don't know why the napkins look so shiny in the pic. They don't in real life. I found 8 of them at GW for 49c each.

The dinner plate is Haystack by Royal Stafford.

The salad plate is Friendly Village by Johnson Bros. and each plate has a different scene.

The goblets have a thumbnail print on them and I found them at GW for $1 each.

A larger view of the entire table.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I always look forward to your visits. I hope you'll come back again soon.

Thank You for Joining the Cloche Party

There is no way I could ever thank all 118 of you enough for joining the "Cloche Party" and making it such a huge success and so much FUN. I tried to see all of your creations and I have been left totally in awe of how creative everyone is. So many beautiful cloches and displays. Some of you said you didn't have a cloche of the standard variety, but boy you sure came thru with tons of different cloches. I've posted just a few pictures of some of the different types of material that cloche forms come in. Please forgive me, I forgot to give each of you credit for these pics, but I do appreciate them all so much.

See the pretty little wire one.

I love the square bottom on this one.

Both of these with the little birds are so pretty.

Now she was only kidding, but it just cracked me up. It really is a cloche.

Now this is the one I really want. I just need a bigger yard and win the lottery.

Don't you just love the chicken wire with the crown top. Such fun.

    Look at these beauties.

Now this is called using what you have and I love it.

I have never seen so many beautiful shapes before.

Just look how pretty the chicken wire and glass go together.

I am so totally fascinated with these pretty chicken wire ones.

This iron one is so stately.

Pretty shaped iron with the tall finial.

So pretty with the little bird on top. I love how open it is too.

The scroll work on this one is so lovely.

Another gorgeous metal beauty with such a pretty finial on top.

She said a cloche was to cover important things. I really chuckled over this one because my coffee is really important to me. lol

Another beautiful wire one used with a sweet little glass one.

You guys all had such fabulous glass cloches and apothecary jars and they were filled with so much inspiration and creativity that I could never have thought of. If you missed any of them, you really missed a lot. Every one was so stunning. You gave me a thrill and some great laughs. I really do thank you all for playing. The poll shows that you would like to have another one seasonally. So how about we schedule the next one for fall. Maybe sometime in Sept? Thank you again to all!!!
